Father Patrick Desbois, author of Holocaust by Bullets, has devoted his life to confronting antisemitism, furthering Catholic-Jewish understanding , as well as identifying and memorializing the mass murder sites of Jews and Roma by Nazi killing squads and local collaborators. Father Desbois, a French priest, is president of Yahad-In Unum. He serves as director of the Episcopal Committee for Catholic-Judeo Relations, under the auspices of the French Conference of Bishops. In addition, he advises the Cardinal-Archbishop of Paris and is an adviser to the Vatican on Judaism.

A grandson of a French deportee to the Rawa Ruska labor camp in the Ukraine, Father Desbois is motivated by a compulsion to locate the killing sites before all the witnesses have died, to “bring proof of these assassinations to the world,” and to assure that history does not die with the witnesses. To fulfill this mission, he founded Yahad-In Unum in 2004.

Father Desbois has received numerous awards and honors including a U.S. State Department Award, a Medal of Valor from the Simon Wiesenthal Center, a Humanitarian Award from the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum, as well as honorary degrees from Yeshiva University, New York University and the Jewish Theological Seminary.
