In this highly provocative alternative history novel, Pulitzer Prize-winning author Philip Roth imagines what happens to the Roth family and their neighbors, friends and relatives in a tight-knit Jewish community in Newark, New Jersey, during World War II, when America elects a charismatic, rabidly isolationist president whose government embraces antisemitism and negotiates an agreement with the leaders of Nazi Germany, bringing the Holocaust to the U.S. by embarking on a program to persecute and perhaps even annihilate the Jews.
Dr. Linda Burghardt, Scholar-in-Residence, will lead the discussion.
