WHEN CARE BECOMES COMPLICITY: NURSES, ETHICS & THE HOLOCAUST
What happens when those entrusted to care for others become participants in harm?
This program explores the history of nurses during the Holocaust and examines the ethical choices—and failures—that allowed medical professionals to become participants in Nazi persecution and murder. Through the history of the Holocaust, participants will consider how prejudice, racism, dehumanization, and intolerance can infiltrate medical institutions and impact the practice of care.
Our trained educators connect these historical lessons to challenges nurses face today, including lateral abuse, racism, discrimination, and other forms of intolerance. Participants will be encouraged to reflect on their own role in creating healthcare environments grounded in dignity, respect, compassion, and ethical care.
The program provides both new and experienced nurses with historical perspective, opportunities for meaningful discussion, and practical tools for fostering healthier and more respectful environments in the nursing profession.
Over the years, our educators have had the privilege of working with future nurses from Pace University, Hofstra University, Molloy University, and numerous other institutions.
