Join us for the unveiling of one of Natan Rapoport’s greatest works: Monument to the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising. The third piece in a series of sculptures commemorating the 1943 Warsaw Ghetto Uprising, this extraordinary creation will find its new, forever home at the Holocaust Memorial & Tolerance Center of Nassau County. This unveiling will be accompanied by the opening of our new temporary exhibition, highlighting Rapoport’s works and the heroes of the Uprising.
This pivotal moment places HMTC in a unique global category shared only by Yad Vashem (Jerusalem) and Zamenhof Square (Warsaw).
Natan Rapoport was a Warsaw-born Holocaust survivor and artist who is best known for his monumental pieces that have been showcased across the world. His 1976 piece, Monument to the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising, is set to be installed on the grounds of HMTC this spring, with the official unveiling taking place on April 19th, a date chosen specifically to commemorate the beginning of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising in 1943.
