About
Barbara Sonek (1942-2010)
Barbara Sonek was born in the United States, spent her entire life in this country and was not directly impacted by the Holocaust. But in reading her poem Holocaust, one cannot fail to recognize how perceptively she has captured the tragic essence of the nightmare that overtook Europe under the regime of Adolf Hitler.
We chose this poem to display in the Children’s Memorial Garden because it so effectively embodies the inspiration and purpose that led to the creation of this Garden: to never forget the tragic loss of 1.5 million Jewish children murdered in the Holocaust.
