Hannah Rosenthal, a Jewish girl fleeing from Nazi Germany in 1939, is a passenger on the infamous St. Louis, the doomed ship that was denied entry to Cuba, and is forced to fight for survival as the ship is turned back to Europe. Decades later, her grand-niece Anna Rosen receives a mysterious package that leads her to Havana to try to uncover this unknown chapter in her family’s history. Our discussion will explore the themes of exile and identity in the Holocaust and the enduring connection between generations, and examine how these themes weave the story together.
Dr. Linda Burghardt, Scholar-in-Residence, will lead the discussion.
